Velinda Wardell ACS is an Australian born director of photography based in Sydney. Velinda holds a BA (Visual Arts) and Masters in Cinematography (AFTRS). Velinda has led the camera department across a broad range of genres including contemporary Sci-fi Drama (SHIFT), Art House (Cosette), Comedy (dik), Documentary (ABC’s Suicide and Me) and a variety of Fashion Campaign films (VAMFFF winner ManiaMania – Babylon), receiving industry recognition for her work. Velinda has a strong interest in forming supportive and collaborative relationships with creatives. She is known for creating a calm and conductive environment on set while maintaining pace and technical excellence. She has been attributed as having a cinematic style with a considered portrayal of characters and story. Velinda is an active member of the Australian Cinematographers Society, participating on the ACS Board and as a judge for Accreditation. She perpetually maintains a current passport as her passion for cinematography often leads to travel to shoots abroad and events such as Camerimage, Cinegear and IMAGO. Velinda’s work has been invited to screen at Camerimage, a festival that celebrates outstanding achievement in cinematography. Other festival screenings include Cinéma des Antipodes at Cannes, Shot on Red LA, LA Comedy Festival, Flickerfest, St. Kilda Film Festival, Palm Springs, CineGear Expo, Clermont- Ferrand and Cleveland International Film Festival. She has won multiple awards from the Australian Cinematographers Society. In 2008 Velinda was awarded the highest honour by the Australian Cinematographers Society, ACS Accreditation. This allows her to display the letters ACS after her name.
