Sarah Winters is a cinematographer based in Los Angeles.
Born and raised in Chicago, she grew up an avid reader, writer, and poet, who enjoyed post-modern art that poked fun of culture and institutions. She went to Occidental College in Los Angeles to study literature in a new urban environment, then went on to USC for film school, where she discovered a love of camera and the emotive, abstract ways that photography was similar to poetry. She started studying camera full-time, both inside and outside of her classes, working as an unpaid camera assistant on countless sets until she graduated in 2017 and started freelancing full-time.
Sarah now has 8+ years of experience in production and has shot narrative, documentary, commercial, and corporate work. Recent credits include content for Comedy Central; branded content for companies like Toyota, Skittles and US Bank; a feature-length documentary about women in gaming; and dozens of narrative projects that have been official selections at festivals around the world.
Sarah seeks to collaborate with directors on emotional, engaging stories founded on a strong visual language. In pursuit of this, she prioritizes creating set environments that are communicative, inclusive, and down-to-earth.
