Cinematographer Laura Merians Gonçalves began shooting in 2007 after nearly a decade of work as a set electrician.
She is the award-winning Cinematographer behind the Darren Aronofsky produced drama PACIFIED, which won the Golden Seashell for Best Film at the San Sebastián International Film Festival as well as the Jury Prize for Best Cinematography, resulting in Gonçalves being the first woman in the history of the festival to ever win this award. PACIFIED then went on to win the Cinematographers’ Debut Competition at the prestigious Camerimage Film Festival. Previously, Merians shot Beyonce’s highly anticipated music video, BIGGER, in connection to Disney’s THE LION KING. Gonçalves was also the Director of Photography on multiple music videos and interactive experiences for Björk. Other credits include the Emmy nominated Musical SACK LUNCH for Netflix and A24, and additional photography on Josephine Decker’s SHIRLEY. Gonçalves work has been exhibited at MoMA PS1: The Museum of Contemporary Art, Cannes and Sundance. Gonçalves was selected as one of the Rising Stars of 2020 by the American Society of Cinematography.
She is based in Los Angeles and New York City.
